Just played around with a tool cool Qcheck to measure the bandwidth between some computers. The interesting thing is I knew laptops were crap if you are doing large data transfers. My wireless lan card got about 4.6 Mbps and my hard wired pcmica card got about 9.28 Mbps. When I don’t have other things to worry about I will try it with other computers, but that means I need to switch my linux box to be an NT box.

Am I ever going to remember or want to remember all this stuff I have to know for my Cisco Certification. Do I really care that ISDN Q numbers describe switching and signaling and E numbers describe ISDN on an Existing telephone Network. and I numbers deal with concepts terminology and services. Then there are the s,t,r and u reference points. From the exam guide “S defines the reference poing between user terminals and an NT2 device”. Don’t get me started on the OSI model. I couldn’t make it stick in my head when I took my first networking course at university and I am having issues making it stick now. For reference It goes, Physical, datalink, network, transport, session, presentation, application and data on the way out goes data -> segments -> packets -> frames -> bits. Then there are svc and pvc (svc sporadic virtual circuits, pvc permanent virtual circuits in Frame relays). Sorry for boring people, I find it help remembering things if I write them down.
Oooo just downloaded the new version of opera. Feels a lot faster. Also fixes an annoying bug of not taking you back to the same place you were when you click back on LJ and other pages. I then found that the “new” button wasn’t were I expected so I went and edited the ini file for the buttons and I now have it where I want. I just wish they would support imap email so I don’t have to use outlook express.

Here is another one “8 years experience in the NT field.” Ok this might be possible, NT 4 has been around for 4 years so that means you must have used NT 3.51 before. Anyone know when NT 3 came out? I keep wondering what value 8 years of experience really is. 🙂 I am applying for this anyway.

upgraded the bios on my wireless gateway. It should fix the problem with connections getting very slow over time. I only just figured this was happening a few days ago. The only draw back is the snmp stuff is screwed up, but I was looking for a way to switch it off so I guess it is a win win situation
