Xkcd

I only recently started reading xkcd, I discovered last week that the cartoons have an alt tag that continues the story or adds more context to it.

Check out today

then leave the mouse over the cartoon, you should see the extra text. (doesn’t work in IE, but does work in firefox and safari)

Postman Pat

I called in to cancel my series 1 tivo which I have had since sept 2000 and they offered me an HD tivo for $200. I ended up getting it since it it will let me transfer shows back and forward between the HD Tivo and the Series 3 I already have. I got it a couple days ago and I finally got everything set up so I can transfer shows between them and now I am watching Postman Pat which was recorded on the tivo HD in the basement and then transfered to the Series 3 in family room.

I can’t believe it they have changed the theme song, and Postman Pat now has kids, they even have cultural diversity now with an Indian family. HY is looking at me strangely………

Avenue Q

We saw Avenue Q tonight at the National Theater in DC. This was a last minute thing, we had talked about it for a week or so but didn’t get any tickets till Thursday. I had a lot of fun. Definitely not for the kids I think the best song was “The internet is for surfing porn” and I think they should make up a t-shirt for the line “Grab your dick and double click”. So I now have a new mouse mat. I am debating weather I would be able to use it at work.

Blade Runner at the Uptown

If you are a blade runner fan I recommend seeing “Blade Runner, the final cut” at the uptown in DC. The story hasn’t been altered much but they have cleaned up the sound and visuals. I read that they re-shot a scene so you see the real actress running through the glass rather than a stunt double. This was the best version of blade runner I have ever seen and the Uptowns super wide screen was very cool.

NBC Pilots

We took advantage of the free NBC downloads from Amazon Unbox to my Series 3 Tivo. So far we have watched Journeyman, Bionic Woman, and Chuck. I watched the first 10 seconds of Life and decided I wasn’t in the mood for it.

Chuck is a quirky show straddling nervously between comedy and an action show. It’s main character works for the equivalent of Best Buy and the Geek Squad except in TV Land it is Buy More and Nerd Herd. The show consisted of hints of comedy, then a car chase, then some offbeat comedy then finished with hunting down a terrorist. The Show reminds me of the humor in the recent Doctor Who episodes. If they can get the mix right then the show has a future.

Next was Journeyman starring the lead actor from Rome. Journey Man seems to be just a remake of Quantum Leap, which is about all I have to say about it.

Then the we have the most hyped and probably the show with the most potential out of the three so far, Bionic Woman. The special effects are a bit on the lame side but it has a dark side with the hint that there is more to come. You can tell that Battlestar Galactica is wrapping up this year since I counted at least 3 former cast members including Katee Sackhoff aka Starbuck in the show. My wife spotted the main character Michelle Ryan to be Zoe from Eastenders. We liked the show and will be interested to see where is goes and congratulations to Michelle for making the jump state side after a long stint on Eastenders.

The conclusion so far is that we like Chuck but don’t think it will run for a full season. Journeyman will probably get shuffled around a couple times then be canceled. Bionic Woman is definitely the leader of the bunch and will probably be the most successful. I will update the post with my views on Life once I have watched it.
