Another AOL IM virus.

This one came from fun001.dynu.net/info.php?file=img021.jpg_______

When a user runs the linux it creates a file called lockx.exe
Lockx then creates a file c:\windows\system32\msdirectx.sys (detected by macfee as FURootkit) and c:\xz.bat (Prockill-cv)
I am also seeing it create a file c:\windows\system32\silient_kuwait150.exe

looks like the silient_kuwait150.exe is spyware.

I fried a motherboard last week. It even gave off a nice puff of smoke. I got a new one last weekend but I hadn’t been very happy with it. The machine wouldn’t reboot cleanly and wasn’t willing to install suse 9.3. I spent some quality time with it tonight and think I have found the problem. At first I thought the cpu was over heating. So a cleaned the heat sink and dropped some new thermal compound on the cpu. That didn’t fix the problem, so I pulled the raid card and all the disc. I that got me a little further through the suse install but it kept hanging. So I pull the memory from another machine so see if that was the problem. Not much better the box would still randomly hang. I swapped the pci graphics for an AGP one from another machine. This time suse installed all the way. after a little fighting with getting grub to install the machine rebooted flawlessly. I swapped the memory out and it still worked. Then plugged in the raid card and drives and machine looks good. I noticed some errors on one of the raid drives, I think that might be the one I just replaced, I may need to pull it and test it but it is already 12:23

Direct TV will be here in the 15 minutes. That makes it almost 7pm. They were supposed to install between 1pm and 5pm. The new washing machine is missing in action. I got a call this morning at 8am from lowes saying that they were down two trucks and some people so could they reschedule. They were supposed to call back an hour later to tell me if they would be able to deliver today or not. I phoned them about 5pm to see what was was happening and I was told they only deliver in the morning and they all left at 4pm. So am guessing I am not getting my new washing machine today.
So Direct TV is on there second attempt and Lowes might call me at some time to tell me when they can deliver. I feel I was productive today so I don’t feel to bad about working from home.
Once directtv is finished installing i need to run down to comp usa. the power supply went fut on my fire server and I decided it was time to get a new case. I saw one at comp usa and resisted the $129 tag but after looking on line it ammounts to about the same price once you add in delivery.

I got a hair cut this morning then I got very dirty. I have a TV jack in my back bedroom that didn’t appear to be connected to anything. I couldn’t find where the cable went. Since I had the day to my self I decided to go hunt for it. I have access to the crawl space in the roof, but it when they did the rehab they left some of the the orginal ceiling and built a new one under it. After some banging and removing chunks of the original ceiling I found it. I am also wanting to move my computers to a different part of the room so I ran a couple more network cables. After crawling round I ended up being covered in black dust from head to foot. I still haven’t got all the dirt off after a shower and a couple washes.
Since i have the TV jack working I put the TV card back in my main computer and I can watch TV while working on the computer. I also have the 2 flat 17 pannels working with suse 9.3, they are running at 1248×1024, which is strange since I couldn’t convince windows to run them at that resoluation. I will need to try installing the driver disk for the monitor to see what happens.

More new toys are here. I now have 2 17 inch flats pannels for my home computer, now I need to upgrade my graphics card to one that can support 2x1248x1024 🙂 it is only running at 2x1024x768.
